Lore (WIP)

- Born and raised in the Dravanian Forelands to a family of lumberers, moved to Ishgard at a young age so that his parents could seek a proper education and life for him there. He loved living in the wilds, and found himself far more connected to the trees and the animals than the people and their “manners”.
- Studied at Saint Endalim’s Scholasticate and was looked down upon by high-borns and bullied during his time there. He never knew the right things to say to other people, so he learned to keep quiet most of the time to avoid drawing their ire - not that it helped much.
- As the Calamity loomed overhead, the torment only got worse. He thought, fuck it, if we're all gonna die, I'll scare off these idiots by summoning a voidsent. He only intended for it to be an imp or something, just enough to intimidate them and make them think twice about bothering him.
- The bullies decided to enact their own Halonic trial, ordering Nick to jump from Witchdrop, and threatening to push him if he didn't - and that was the moment when Nick snapped, and impulsively acted on his plan ahead of schedule.
That did not go well in a variety of ways:
- Number one, he had very little to no control over what he was summoning, with the voidsent called being far more powerful than he intended.
- Number two, he was knocked off his feet by the sheer force, and ended up accidentally swallowing the small crystal he used as a conduit.
- Number three, upon ingesting the active crystal, he fused with the voidsent. He attacked his bullies, killing one, putting another into a coma, and scarring the third both physically and mentally.
- Number four, the world didn't end the way he thought it would. He had to live with himself now and the consequences of his actions.
- He knew that if he stayed in Ishgard, he wasn’t going to have been able to explain himself properly, and he likely would’ve been branded as a heretic. His parents might have been tried as well, and couldn’t bear to bring that shame on to them.
- With all this in mind, he fled Ishgard to seek out a life as a mercenary following the Calamity - his demonic fusion heightened his affinity for destructive magic, which he used to get by.
- As it dawned on 5 years since his mistake, he made his way to the Arrzaneth Ossuary in Ul’Dah to research his circumstances and study Thaumaturgy in more depth. However, even after learning more, he was no closer to finding peace within himself, and now channels his rage as a Warrior.
- After returning to Ishgard as a ward of House Fortemps, Nick is unsure of how to feel about the city and people he once hated more than anything. At first, he found the manor uncomfortable at best, and suffocating at worst.
- But from his time with Ysayle, Aymeric, Hauchefant, and Francel, Nick resolves that maybe Ishgard is worth saving. He feels a sense of catharsis in the Archbishop’s demise, and wants to follow through on everyone’s wishes to make the city a better place than it had been for the last century.
- He hates to make a big deal out of it, but he helps out with the Firmament’s efforts whenever he can.
- He’s also reunited with his parents during his time in Tailfeather, who were shocked to find he survived the calamity, and that he’s changed so much. His mother was initially furious at him for disappearing, but they’re all on good terms - and Tailfeather is now like a second home to him. His father passed on a family heirloom greataxe to him.
